Tips & Techniques
Canvas practice makes perfect
Within each kit comes a series of practice pieces for you to see how the paints and tools feel on the surface of the canvas. This also allows you to try different colour combinations and techniques before committing to your canvas
Let the linen lead
This canvas is a statement on its own. Let it show.
Try leaving large areas unpainted, and build your composition around the natural texture of the surface. It creates contrast, calm, and a high-end gallery feel without doing too much.
Mask and reveal
Use masking tape to create crisp separations between textured and untouched areas. Create that sharp definition between the linen and the paint.
Use the pastel with purpose
Your soft pastel is here to add something extra: a new layer of texture, or a few bold final marks. Use it dry on top of paint for grainy contrast, or on raw linen for soft, chalky lines. Try pressing harder for a dense pop, or go light for something subtle and airy.
Knife or brush — your call
Use the palette knife for structured, graphic strokes or scraping across dry paint. The round brush is perfect for loose lines or detail, and the flat one works for bold colour blocks or layering. Switch between them as you go, each brings a different rhythm to the canvas.
Minimal tools, endless options
This style isn’t about following a guide. It’s about starting with less and seeing what’s possible. Clean lines, abstract shapes or wild gestures, it’s all welcome. Follow a plan or just see where the colours take you.
Inspiration behind Monochrome
Monochrome was inspired by the beauty of simplicity. How much feeling and depth can come from just black, white, and a touch of tone. It’s about stepping back from colour and focusing on contrast, texture, and balance.
The Monochrome collection celebrate the calm confidence of minimalism. letting light, shadow, and texture do the talking. Whether you’re working with pure black and white or adding a soft accent shade, Monochrome is about creating something striking with less, and finding expression in the subtle details.
