Blank Canvas is a framed canvas you build entirely by hand, from the inner structure to the final edge frame. It’s designed for those who want a strong, beautiful foundation without being guided toward a specific outcome.
Each kit includes everything you need to construct a professional, gallery-ready framed canvas at home. The inner frame is custom-designed and handcrafted locally, built for strength and stability. Once assembled, you stretch your own raw canvas over the frame, creating a surface that’s uniquely yours before any paint ever touches it.

WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT
A handcrafted foundation
The inner frame is custom-designed for Plan and made locally in Edinburgh using a reinforced structure with triangle corner inserts. This creates a solid, long-lasting foundation that feels substantial and intentional, not temporary or disposable.
You stretch the canvas yourself
Both cotton and linen canvases are raw and unprimed, allowing the natural texture of the fabric to remain visible. Stretching the canvas by hand becomes part of the creative process, giving you full control over tension, feel and finish.
If you choose to prime your canvas, we recommend doing so once it’s stretched and secured.
A frame that becomes part of the piece
You’ve chosen either an oak or dark oak edge frame, handcrafted locally and added once the artwork is complete. The edge frame is attached using the T-staple setting on your staple gun, creating a clean, confident finish that elevates the entire piece.
Designed to support any direction
This kit doesn’t include paints or tools. It’s made to support complete freedom — whether you paint, leave it raw, or come back to it later. Practice pieces and a protective sheet are included so you can explore at your own pace.
A canvas worth waiting for
You don’t need to rush into creating. The framed canvas is beautiful as it is, leaning or hanging blank. Let it exist in your space first. Sometimes the artwork arrives later.
