OLIVE

Olive is a calm, organic palette inspired by natural rhythm. Muted greens sit alongside soft neutrals and darker grounding tones, creating space for gentle movement and layered depth. It’s a palette for quiet confidence, subtle contrast, and trusting the process as it unfolds.

This kit lends itself to slower painting and intuitive decisions rather than bold statements. On raw cotton canvas, the colours soften and blend naturally, allowing marks to feel worn-in rather than sharp. Olive works beautifully when you allow variation in pressure, opacity and texture.

PAINTING
TIPS & TECHNIQUES

Use your canvas practice pieces

Spend time getting comfortable with how the paints, brushes and palette knife behave on raw canvas before moving onto your main piece. Try out marks, pressure, colour mixes and compositions freely. This is where confidence builds, without the pressure of committing.

Start lighter than you think

Olive comes alive through layering. Begin with softer, lighter applications of paint and allow darker tones to emerge gradually. This keeps the piece feeling open and avoids overpowering the canvas too early.

Let colours overlap gently

Rather than placing colours side by side, allow them to overlap and brush past each other. Slight mixing on the canvas creates natural transitions and a more organic feel than fully blended areas.

Use your palette knife for broken texture

Your palette knife works especially well with Olive. Try dragging colour lightly across the canvas so the texture shows through, creating broken, imperfect edges that feel natural and unforced.

Embrace irregular spacing

Avoid evenly distributing marks across the canvas. Group some areas more densely and leave others almost untouched. This contrast between activity and stillness gives Olive its calm, balanced presence.

Pause and observe

Olive benefits from space, both on the canvas and in the process. Step back often, rotate the canvas if needed, and give yourself time between layers. What feels unfinished often settles beautifully once you stop intervening.
